“Is Two Timing Really As Bad As They Say?”
by: Soren Hansen
Cheating spouses and double-crossers have given two-timing a bad wrap. So we here at OSW are going to try and change that. Since one is the loneliest number doing something twice just can’t be bad. I personally think the best things in life come in pairs. I mean there’s peas & carrots, Wilbur & Wilma, chicken & waffles, birds & the bees, etc. and if the last two weeks are any indication there are more than just a “couple” of Wildcats that couldn’t agree more.
The softball team won their second consecutive national title and as I mentioned in the last edition, Jake Arnold was trying to match that feat in defending his title in the decathlon. Arnold did just that last week capturing his second decathlon title and became just the second athlete in history to win back-to-back NCAA decathlon titles. In addition to Arnold there were a number of athletes that excelled during the event. Over the course of the four day meet, the Wildcats had 10 athletes earn All-American status. Kuehl (shot put and discus), Sola (shot put), Jake Arnold (decathlon), Obed Mutanya (5,000 meters), Marcus Tyus (4x100-meter relay), Xiong Xuehan (4x100-meter relay), Antoine Cason (4x100-meter relay), Troy Harris (4x100-meter relay), Bobby McCoy (4x100-meter relay) and Shevell Quinley (heptathlon). For those of you wondering, that is the same Antoine Cason that’s projected to be an All-American cornerback for Stoops and our football team. That’s right, he’s a two-sport star, somebody get that guy a letterman jacket. Congratulations to Arnold and all the other ‘Cats for their honors.
In other news the Major League Baseball draft took place last week and seven ‘Cats were drafted in the first year player draft. The class was led by senior starter Brad Mills who was taken in Round 2 by the Toronto Blue Jays. Good luck Brad, eh.
OSW Athlete of the Week
I have to give this week’s title to Jake Arnold who in accordance with the theme of the week is now a two-time winner of the decathlon. His score of 8,215 is a new school record and No. 2 all time in the Pac-10 conference.
Well that’s all for this week but if you want seconds of this article or any others you can always find them in the articles section so until then double fist a couple of brews put on Foreigner’s Double Vision and as always be sure to check back in to read about our less than publicized athletes in OSW.
