Playoff Predictions!

By Sherrick Baffert
Optimistic Guy

04/21/2007

Ok, so the playoffs already started, and we may have a slight advantage at picking the winners, but we had at it anyways.  But like always we had a slightly different take then Stephen A. Smith and  John Hollinger, because we know a little more about Wildcats then they do.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

The Los Angeles Lakers vs.
The Denver Nuggets Series...
aka the Lukeshow.

No brainer right.  Luke Walton steps on the court and every tool/fundamental of the game just starts oozing all over the place.  This series is a blowout, Luke rains threes, leaves Carmelo speechless with his passing, catches anything that comes anywhere near him, and just grabs rebounds from Camby with ease.  The Nuggets will have no answer for Luke and go home packing after four.

Luke 4 - Nuggets 0.

The New Orleans Hornets vs.
The Dallas Mavericks Series...
aka the Return of the JT.

The media hypes CP3 up, and he begins to show off to the world why he deserved to be ranked the #1 Point Guard in the country coming out of high school (Sorry 'Staf).  Hornets take first two with ease and Mr. Cuban decides he needs to make an executive decision.  Upon return to Dallas, Avery Johnson is forced to bench former Cal standout for the 1999 National Player of the Year, Jason Terry.  It proves to be the difference as JT rains 3's from all around the perimeter to single handedly carry his team back into the series.  It is a hard fought battle, and critics agree that JT wearing his legendary "CATS" socks in game 7 was the difference, even though it cost him a few dollars.

JT 4 - Hornets 3

The Phoenix Suns vs.
The San Antonio Spurs Series...
aka Mighty Mouse v. the GM.

This series turns out to be the most epic of the first round.  The defending champions look to end the Suns road to the championship for a second year in a row and people could not ask for a better showing.  Game 1 Spurs, Game 2 Suns, Game 3 Spurs, Game 4 Suns.  The battle goes back and forth, series tied 2-2, and Tony Parker goes down in early minutes of the 5th game.  Spurs fans think they are done for, and then the Mighty Mouse of old comes out dropping 45 in game 5 to lead Spurs to victory.  Unfortunately for Spurs fans, Coach Popovich sticks with Parker for rest of series and pays heavily for it.  Steve Kerr's huge gamble for the Shaqtus at midseason pays off huge as Tim Duncan amasses a total of 6 points in the final two games, and falls out in the first round.  Shoulda played Damon more.

Phoenix Kerrs 4 - Spurs 2 (Damon 1)

The Houston Rockets vs.
The Utah Jazz Series...
aka Loren's Revenge.

Coming into the series, people all predict the Jazz to move on.  Problem is none of them have seemed to analyze the game and its history enough.  Ya Yao is gone, but a worthy replacement was found, just in time for the playoffs.  And it was the last person Carlos Boozer wanted to see in Round 1.  Still infuriated by 2001 and the officiating that went along with it, Loren Woods enters the NBA Playoffs on a tear for the Rockets.  Jazz take game one with no minutes from Loren, but a hard foul by Mt. Mutumbo (previously climbed by Richard Jefferson) against Deron Williams in Game Two leaves Dikembe suspended and Deron down for the count (payback from 2005! and Salim's Championship).  Woods enters, Boozer scores 0 points for rest of series as every attempt is either swatted into row 22 or directly back into the ugly Boozer face.  Utah is happy to see in game 5 to finally get out of the series missing their point guard and watching Boozer cry every night in the locker room.

Loren 4 - Jazz 1

Stoops Quote of The Week

Coach Stoops on recruiting, "Obviously, Arizona State has turned into a J.C. and we are a four-year college. According to all the players, they say it is easier to go to school there, easier to get in. I thought we had the same requirements. It is news to me."  By easier to go to school there, do they mean the pay is better?
